Designing Your Concrete Project – tips from the Atlanta concrete specialist

Designing your Atlanta Concrete Project
Another step in providing a quality concrete project is looking at all the design options. Being a concrete contractor in Georgia I often see folks who decide to have a concrete project done and they jump into the project without getting a qualified contractor to design a project that will best fit their needs. In this series the first step to having a professional project completed by a qualified Atlanta concrete contractor was planning for your concrete project. The next step you will want to think about in your project is designs options.
Today’s concrete can be formed into practically any shape, texture, pattern, or color. It’s a way of adding a new dimension of quality and elegance to your home, at a reasonable cost. Decorative concrete is becoming more common simply because it adds to the uniqueness of your
project.
Pattern stamping is an exotic and colorful way to enhance ordinary concrete paving. Essentially, the concrete driveway is cast-in-place concrete which has been colored and imprinted with a pattern designed to look like brick, tile, cobblestone, or other various patterns. Textured finishes include bromide, swirl, or exposed aggregate.
You can also add texture by adding brick or stone borders. There are so many options to chose from that you can now chose a style, color, pattern or design that represents your unique personality, making the concrete project your own.

Happy Concrete Driveway, Sidewalk, and front stoop Customer

Before hiring Professional Concrete of Georgia, I solicited bids from 8 contractors to replace my garage floor
, driveway, sidewalk, stoop, and front stairs. I wanted to ensure that I hired a company that would do the job right, charge a competitive fee, stand behind their work and leave me with a finished product I would be proud of for many years to come.
Brandon Sewell provided a comprehensive list of solutions for my concerns; showing me that Professional Concrete of Georgia had significant experience in all areas of my project. He offered ideas to improve the design and submitted an extremely comprehensive list of references, by project type, so I could contact those references I had the most in common with. From the day my concrete project began, I knew I had made the right decision. Professional Concrete of Georgia started “on the day scheduled” during a very rainy season late in 2009 when, I am sure, it would have been easier to push the start date out. Every individual that worked on my project was friendly and very hard working. Everyone treated my home like it was there own. All individuals were craftsmen in the work they performed. It was a thrill to watch them. I never once had any reservations or problems with the work being performed. Now that the project is finished, I have a home that I am very proud of and the neighbors are very jealous of. Professional Concrete of Georgia significantly improved the value of my home.

Make sure you hire a concrete contractor who plans correctly.

Being a concrete contractor in Georgia I often see folks who decide to have a driveway replacement project done and they jump into the project without getting a qualified contractor to bid correctly on the job. There are several steps to getting a great job done without being knocked off your feet by surprises. The first step to having a professional project completed by a qualified concrete contractor is:
Planning
The quality of the completed concrete driveway always begins with good planning. Spending time at this stage is always a wise decision that can help to eliminate possible problems later on. One of the first things to consider is size.
The suggested width for a single-car driveway is 8 to 9 feet. For double width, plan to use 15 to 18 feet. If the distance from the street to a two or more car garage is long enough, the initial entry approach can be of single-car width and then widened near the garage to accommodate all car stalls. If space is available, extra parking or a turn-around area can be included. Also, the planning stage is the time to consider adding that concrete patio or porch addition.
As for thickness, non-reinforced pavement 4 inches thick is standard for passenger car driveways. For heavier vehicles, a thickness of 5 inches is recommended. To eliminate standing water, the driveway should be sloped towards the street a minimum of 1%, or 1/8 inch per foot for proper drainage.

Do you want your Replacement driveway job done right

As professional concrete contractors in the Atlanta area, We like to compare our techniques to theirs. For instance, the picture to the right shows a driveway poured by our competition. They simply formed-up to the curb by laying down two 1×8″s nailed together and then poured concrete over what was left of the existing curb. This leaves a thin edge that is easily broken.
The way we do a driveway replacement project at Professional Concrete of Georgia
we saw-cut and remove the curb. After removing the curb properly, we then dig down eight inches forming a footer-like area (most of our competitors only pour four inches of concrete at the curb). We dig this eight inch footer-like area at the curb and garage so the driveway will have increased strength in these critical areas.
Professional Concrete of Georgia = Concrete eight inches thick at your garage and the end of your concrete driveway for lasting strength and beauty!
Competition = Thin, broken concrete at the end of your driveway!
Where newly installed concrete joins existing concrete, we drill into the existing concrete every eighteen inches. Rebar is then inserted into these holes and an epoxy type adhesive is used to hold the rebar in place (as necessary). This allows the concrete to expand while keeping it from settling and developing a lip. That way you will always have a smooth transition from your pre-existing concrete areas to your newly installed concrete areas.
